Acetyl L Carnitine (ALC)
Acetyl L carnitine is a nutrient made of the amino acids methionine and lysine which aids in the transport of fatty acids to the mitochondria of our cells for increased metabolism. A review of 37 studies demonstrated patients who took acetyl L carnitine had lower body weight, body mass index (BMI), and fat mass. Acetyl L carnitine is also known for its protective benefits against Alzheimer’s disease.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Alpha lipoic is a fat and water soluble antioxidant that helps mitochondria in our cells make energy. ALA lowers blood sugar and accelerates our detoxification pathways, particularly in liver and nerve cells. ALA is great also for protecting the skin and other organs like the liver from oxidative stress. While some foods like broccoli and brussel sprouts are the source of some ALA, supplements like the Ultimate Detox can provide more than 1000x the ALA that is found in foods. ALA has also been shown to increase intracellular glutathione making it an effective way to decrease harmful toxins of alcohol, heavy metals, or other chemicals.

B12 (Methylcobalamin)
Vitamin B12 aids fat metabolism and, in the form methylcobalamin, serves as a powerful methyl donor to aid the work of choline and inositol in the body, particularly in the liver. B12 is also key for making new red blood cells which allows the blood to carry more oxygen and thereby enhances aerobic metabolism in the body.

Calcium D – Glucarate
Calcium D-glucarate is the result of combining calcium and d-glucaric acid.
Glucaric acid helps rid the body from environmental toxins, hormones (like estrogen), carcinogens, and metabolic waste generated within the body. Dr. Jolene Brighton has a great diagram which shows how d-glucaric acid assists with the Phase 2 liver detoxification through glucuronidation. See below.
Glucuronidation is the process by which toxins, including estrogen metabolites as exogenous chemicals, are bound to glucuronic acid. Once bound to this glucuronic acid, substances can be excreted through the bile to be eliminated from the body in feces, urine, sweat, or menstruation.
However, glucuronidation is blocked by a gut enzyme called beta-glucuronidase. Calcium d-glucarate works by inhibiting beta-glucuronidase, thus allowing the liver to better excrete toxins and excess estrogen.

Choline
Choline is a powerful supplement that has been shown to improve liver and heart function, particularly in those with liver congestion or elevated homocysteine. Choline works to mobilize fatty acids and cholesterol from the liver as well as other fat soluble toxins (eg. petrochemicals, paints, and plastics) along with estrogens and xenoestrogens. Choline is also great for the nervous system as it is a component of acetylcholine, which functions as a primary neurotransmitter in the brain.

Chromium
Chromium is a trace mineral that is key for lowering blood sugar and reducing insulin spikes.
“The FDA has approved the following statement for chromium supplements: ‘One small study suggests that chromium picolinate may reduce the risk of insulin resistance, and therefore possibly may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.’
In a metaanalysis of 1,316 participants over nine to 24 weeks, patients taking 200 to 1000 mcg per day of chromium lost more weight and lowered their BMI and body fat compared with placebo.

DIM
DIM is a key nutrient from cruciferous vegetables like cabbage. It works to enhance estrogen metabolism in the liver as well as stop the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. Ultimately, DIM can increase overall metabolism and reduce hormone-based weight gain.

Evodiamine
Evodiamine, also known as Wu-Chu-Yu, is an extract from a plant called Evodiae Fructus. It stimulates your resting core temperature and body heat and has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. Evodiamine has been shown to improve the body’s ability to burn calories and reduce its capacity to make new fat cells. In a study on rats, evodiamine showed a fat reduction of 28%.

Inositol
Inositol is a compound that improves insulin sensitivity thereby lowering blood sugar. Inositol also helps the body produce serotonin which may reduce anxiety and support the nervous system. Inositol also supports the activity of the ovaries. In a journal called Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, inositol was as effective as metformin, a medicine that is commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, at increasing insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS. About half of the women showed a decrease in BMI and their menstrual cycles returned to normal.
Inositol also aids liver and nervous system because it’s powerful metabolic and antioxidant effects on glucose.

Magnesium Malate
Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in the body contributing to over 300 biochemical reactions. It is key for neurological, cardiovascular, liver, kidney, bone, gastro-intestinal and muscular health.
Malic acid (or malate, when bound to magnesium) is key for helping the body absorb nutrients and improving energy production. Magnesium malate is one of the most bioavailable forms of magnesium. In addition to being a metal chelator, malic acid is used in many liver flush recipes as aid in the breakdown of gallstones into smaller pieces.

Methionine
Methionine supports the liver and protects it from damage due to toxins like acetaminophen and fat-soluble toxins like estrogens and xenoestrogens. Methionine is also key as a methyl-donor and assisting choline and inositol to better detoxify the liver. It is also a key sulfur containing amino acid critical for building lean muscles.

N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)
NAC is another very powerful supplement for improving liver and lung function as it, like ALA, can also increase glutathione in the body. NAC has been widely used since the 1970s for acetaminophen-induced liver damage in hospitals around the world. NAC has also been used for mercury poisoning as well as other heavy metals.

Niacin (as Nicotinic Acid)
Niacin is great for liver health as it reduces LDL production and increases HDL production.. By production of a substance called apolipoprotein B, which is a component of LDL cholesterol. By reducing the production of apolipoprotein B, niacin helps to reduce the amount of LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream. Niacin also activates an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase which is responsible for removing triglycerides from the bloodstream. Finally, niacin acts as a cofactor for energy production as it aids in the metabolism of fats, sugars, and proteins.

Potassium Iodide
Iodine aids in the elimination of “dirty estrogens,” which are estrogen metabolites can lead to fibrocystic breasts, breast lumps, thyroid nodules, endometriosis, fibroids, infertility, mood swings, and PMS.
Note: If you have autoimmune low thyroid, you should not add additional iodine to your diet or take the Ultimate Detox. Instead, use the Diva Detox formulation instead.

Trimethylglycine (TMG)
TMG, or trimethylglycine is a powerful nutrient that has been shown to lower insulin resistance and lower homocysteine levels. In the liver, TMG helps process methionine to produce S-adenosylmethionine, which helps lower inflammation. TMG, as a powerful methyl donor, works synergistically with liver enzymes as well as other nutrients such as choline and inositol.

Vanadium
As a trace mineral similar to chromium, vanadium has powerful benefits for enhancing the body’s ability to metabolize glucose and lower blood sugar. Most human studies have been targeted at seeing these effects on diabetic patients in which doses of 150mg per day were shown to decrease blood glucose production and increase insulin sensitivity.
